The Yahoo Groups List

The College Park Dog Park Association runs a Yahoo! Groups list called CPDogPark. This list sends out the official correspondence from the CPDPA board on dog park matters. It also functions as a place of discussion among members, where people can connect with each other to set up play dates, social events, and other activities.

The associated website,  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cpdogpark , has many features for group members, such as an online calendar of events, polls, and message archives. Currently, the group also has several photos up for viewing/download, as well as databases listing local vets, trainers, boarding facilities, and dog sitters.  [Also, the minutes of the monthly College Park Dog Park Association meetings are stored in the "Files" area.  -- ed.]

To sign up for the list, send an email to cpdogpark-subscribe@yahoogroups.com .

If you are already signed up and want to send a message to the list, the address is cpdogpark@yahoogroups.com.

Some things about membership:

  • When you are signed up, you will begin to receive any messages posted to the list. You will be an email member of the Yahoo! Group CPDogPark. This means you are subscribed to the group’s email list, but it does not necessarily mean you have access to the group’s web features.

  • If you want to use the web features with the CPDPA list, such as accessing the calendar and poll features of the list, or reading the messages online, you will have to log into the CPDogPark Yahoo! Groups page with a Yahoo! ID. If you do not have a Yahoo! ID you will need to create one. (It's free.)  Creating this ID will allow you to fully participate in the CPDPA Yahoo! group website as well as in other features Yahoo! offers.

  • If you want to change your default settings (described below) or your email address, or unsubscribe, it is easiest to do so by logging onto the web site with a Yahoo! ID.  If you don't have a Yahoo! ID and prefer not to get one, email the list owner at cpdogpark-owner@yahoogroups.com and someone will help you.
  • If you do not want to create a Yahoo! ID you can still be a member of the CPDPA list.  You don’t need the Yahoo! ID to receive messages, only to access the other features on the web page. However, the list will be utilizing the web features to plan event time and dates, send out polls of when people go to the dog park, etc., so decide for yourself whether you want to get a Yahoo! ID.

  • The default settings are such that everyone is subscribed to get individual messages. If you have a Yahoo! ID, you can change your personal settings by logging into the group website. Message replies start out set up to go ONLY back to the original sender. That should cut down on the number of messages that post to the entire list. For example, if I ask people for RSVP's, people that respond to me will send the message only to me if they click 'reply.' A message that is only for me will not go to the entire list. If a reply to a message is useful for the whole list, of course you can use 'reply all' when responding.

  • There are databases located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CPDogPark/database . We have created lists for boarding facilities, vets, and trainers in the area. Members can browse these lists and add their own recommendations. I am hoping people will use this valuable tool-- I know personally I am waiting to see the vet references that go up on the database, as I am still searching for that 'perfect' vet.
